Postdoctoral Researcher

Research

My current research focuses on southeastern Africa and its interactions with the Indian Ocean World in the centuries before and after Portuguese entrance into that region. I am interested in interdisciplinary approaches towards exploring the sociality of trade and commercial activity, movement of commodities, and development of material culture, and am particularly interested in cross-cultural consumption – how objects can be domesticated to take on new meanings as they move across societal and cultural boundaries.

Biography

I completed my undergraduate degree in History at Brunel University London in 2018, before studying for an MPhil in World History and a PhD in History at the University of Cambridge. My doctoral thesis was titled ‘Firearm Adoption in the Societies of the lower Zambezi, 1600-1888.’
