About
Júlio is a researcher and lecturer at the History Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Eduardo Mondlane University where he works on the history of Mozambique, Southern Africa and Africa in general up to the 19th century. Recently, Júlio’s research focuses on the history of southern Mozambique in the first centuries of contacts with foreigners (Arabs and Europeans). He is also interested in the study of slavery and the slave trade, especially its legacy, the circularity of knowledge and Mozambican diaspora in the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. In addition, Júlio studies issues related to disease, health, religion, peace, local knowledge, gender relations, the environment, migration and music. He has participated actively in international scientific events (Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Morocco, Brazil) where he has engaged in debates on the history of Mozambique.
